Indian man plants by himself a whole forest

Jadab Molai Payeng is an Indian man that has spent most of his life planting a whole forest. The 48 year old man, has decided 34 years ago, after a severe flooding in the Assam region of India, to plant trees onto a sandbar. His decision came when after the flooding, he has noticed that a number of snakes have been swept away onto a sandbar and have died because of the heat.

Jadab asked the help of the Forest Department which refused to aid this area and so he decided to take the matter into his own hands. After 34 years of growing trees, the desert area has become a forest ( check some pictures here), spread on 1,360 acres.

Jadab is so dedicated that he lives in isolation, in the forest with his family, and earns his living from selling milk. A truly dedicated man.
